Thierry Mugler - Designer History
Multi-talented fashion designer and photographer, Thierry Mugler, was born in 1948 in Strasbourg, France. He originally trained as a ballet dancer, but also studied design and produced clothing for his friends. In 1970 he moved to Paris and while making a living as a window-dresser, designed clothing on the side. He initiated his women’s label in 1974, and followed with a men’s fashion line four years later. His first boutique opened in Paris in 1978. Theirry’s lines were known primarily for their uniquely exaggerated and strong, angular shapes, with wide shoulders and pegged waistlines. Film noir played a strong influence in his aesthetic, as did insect species, space and futuristic themes. His first haute couture collection debuted in 1992 and the mid-90’s saw a flurry of boutique openings worldwide. His lines include women’s luxury ready-to-wear, sportswear and leisure, leather accessories, jewelry, shoes, and men’s and women’s perfumes and body products.
Thierry Mugler - Perfume History
In 1992, Thierry Mugler launched his first innovative perfume for women, Angel, an international hit, and followed in 1997 with his first men's fragrance, A*MEN. A windfall of popular new fragrances were to follow: Mugler Cologne, B*Men, Angel Garden of Stars, Alien, A*Men Summer Flash, Mugler Cologne Summer Flash, Summer Flash, Innocent Secret, The Coffret, The Story of a Murderer, ICE*Men, Greg Plitt and Eau de Star.
Despite the brand’s novel style and popularity, Mugler's fashion house met its demise in the ‘90’s and has been owned since 1997 by Clairns, a French cosmetics and skincare company, after seven years in successful partnership with the designer. The brand is primarily known today for its multitude of fragrances. Since the ‘90’s, Mugler the man has busied himself with film, amongst other artistic pursuits, and collaborated with Cirque du Soleil on its "Zumanity" show. His design influence can still be seen in modern-day Balenciaga, D&G and McQueen lines. He is currently working on a capsule couture collection to be presented in the fall of 2007. His vintage lines remain coveted the world over to this day.

- Do not arch your back or let your back sway. Visualize a glass of ice water on your back, and concentrate on not spilling it.
- It is of utmost importance to maintain proper positioning through out the movement, back strain can result with poor form. Tighten your abdominal muscles and visualize trying to touch your belly button to your backbone.
- Torso strengthening equipment works the abdominal muscles in both directions. The negative (return) movement is as important as the positive (forward) movement
